The Entlebucher is the smallest of the four Swiss Sennenhund ( Cattle dog) or as we called it here in north America, Mountain dog. To truly understand  the Swiss sennenhund, the great Swiss, Berner, Appenzeller and the Entlebucher, you have to now the whole story.
This History was compiled from posts written by Margaret Baertschi to member of an  e-mail list of Bernese Mountain Dog (BMD) breeders. Margaret is chairwoman of the Breeding Committee in the Swiss Club for Bernese Mountain Dogs and coauthor (with Hansjoachim Spengler) of Hunde: sehen züchten erleben. Das Buch vom Berner Sennenhund. Her description contains much information relevant to the history of all four breeds of the Swiss sennenhunde.
